FREE Product Samples - What to really expect

So many beauty brands offer free product samples as a method to promote their products. This seems to make sense right? Try before you buy? I have given away a boat load of samples for potential customers to try before they buy. We love the FREE stuff right? One thing I have realized is that people really don't know what the purpose of a skin care or body care sample is really for. The sample size is going to be much less than the full size product, obviously, so you only have a short amount of time to try the product, typically between one to four uses. There are a few things to remember when you are trying out a free sample product.

#1. Don't expect the skin care sample to give you results immediately especially if you are sampling a product that is said to eliminate acne, rosacea, eczema, dermatitis or a systemic skin condition. The sample will not last long enough for you to see results in these areas.

#2. Make sure the sample is fresh. The last thing you want is a sample that has been sitting around someone for several months.

#3. Don't expect the sample size to have a full list of ingredients. The containers and packaging are too small to include the ingredient list. You should be able to find the full list of ingredients or at least the key ingredients on the brands website. I realize many brands do not include the ingredient list on their website. This is legal and the FDA does not require it but I personally like to see the ingredients before I make a purchase.

The purpose of the product sample, especially with skin care is to see if the product is going to cause any type of reaction. It is NOT to see if the product "works." More and more people are experiencing skin sensitivities, even to products that are identified as natural and organic. Believe it or not, some are allergic to coconut oil, almond oil, shea butter - all of these being natural.

So keep in mind the next time you get excited about having a skin care product sample, remember its purpose. Don't expect results but do expect the product to agree with your skin.

Stay beautiful,

Kim~
